Assessing the Speciation of Lutjanus campechanus and Lutjanus purpureus through Otolith Shape and Genetic Analyses

چکیده

Based on their morphological and genetic similarity, several studies have proposed that Lutjanus campechanus purpureus are the same species, but there is no confirmed consensus yet. A population-based study concerning otolith shape analyses was used to evaluate if L. species. Samples were collected from populations in southwestern Gulf of Mexico Venezuelan Caribbean. Otolith evaluated by traditional outline-based geometric morphometrics. Genetic characterization performed sequencing mtDNA control region intron 8 nuclear gene FASD2. The analysis did not indicate differences between nested PERMANOVA identified for population factor (fishing area) morphometrics indexes (p = 0.001) contour (WLT4 anterior zone, p 0.005 WLT4 posterodorsal 0.002). An AMOVA found variation geographic regions be 10%, while intrapopulation 90%. Network an important connection haplotypes different regions. phylogenetic a monophyletic group formed purpureus, suggesting insufficient evolutionary distances them. Both molecular differences, among populations, western Atlantic red snappers experiencing speciation process.

Feeding biomechanics of juvenile red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) from the northwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Juvenile red snapper settle across several complex habitats, which function as nurseries for young fish. Little is known about their life history or feeding biomechanics during this time. However, recent studies have shown higher growth rates for juveniles located on mud habitats adjacent to low profile reefs, perhaps because of varied prey availability and abundance. To further investigate the...

Artificial reef placement: a red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus, ecosystem and fuzzy rulebased model

This study on reef placement involves two aspects: (1) the development of a bioenergetics model for red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus (Poey), in Gulf of Mexico waters off the coast of Alabama, where significant numbers of artificial reefs are thought to exist, and (2) a fuzzy rough set model by which parameters determined from the bioenergetics model can provide a decision tool for optimally sp...

Development of EPIC-PCR Markers for Lutjanus purpureus (Lutjanidae-Perciformes) and their Potential Applicability in Population Analyses.

In the present study, a novel set of eight EPIC primers were developed for Lutjanus purpureus and assayed in five other marine teleosts including three lutjanids, one scianid and one anablepid. Most of the genomic regions used in this study presented genetic diversity indexes equal or greater than the intragenic regions commonly used in population genetics studies. Moreover, six out of eight ma...

Lack of Spatial Subdivision for the Snapper Lutjanus purpureus (Lutjanidae – Perciformes) from Southwest Atlantic Based on Multi-Locus Analyses

The Caribbean snapper Lutjanus purpureus is a marine species fish commonly found associated with rocky seabeds and is widely distributed along of Western Atlantic. Data on stock delineation and stock recognition are essential for establishing conservation measures for commercially fished species. However, few studies have investigated the population genetic structure of this economically valuab...
